Is genetic modification worth doing?
Pros of manufacturing
Have designed two new varieties of apple that turn less brown when cut or bruised.
Produce food to be more nutritious or tolerant of herbicides.
Contribute to lower costs for the consumer. They can also ensure that more people have access to quality food.
Cons of manufacturing
Genetically engineering foods is a relatively new practice, little is known about the long-term effects and safety.
Research is ongoing.
Evidence for a range of drawbacks associate with GMO foods.
Ethical biology
While genetic modifications are a great step forward in science, many scientists consider it unethical
nutrients might be increased in food which would lead to less consumption and therefore more abundance
Plants that are more resistant to diseases spread by insects or viruses result in higher yields for growers and a more attractive product
Human health
People think that genetic modification is perjudicial to health because its an alteration to the normal food
people that avoid genetic modification are used to consume organic food (this is food wihout chemicals and modifications)
In some cases the genetic modification is bad because they can use chemicals that perjudicate our health
A example of this are the transgenics but we have to look well because there are types of transgenics that bennefits to our body
In other cases the genetic modification is good because you can improve the nutrients that the food have or even add those nutrients in an artficial way
This can be useful because you can have a better diet or better consumtion habbits.
