Cosmological argument
Aquinas 4 arguments
1: Motion
-
- Everything is in motion because of something else
- there cannot be an infinite regress of motion
- therefore the must be a first moment: God
2: Causation
- Everything that happens is caused by something
-
- There must have been a first cause: GOD
3: Contingency
- things are contingent (subject to chance) but there cannot only be contingent things
- there must be a necessary thing: GOD
4: Degrees
- everything comes from a degree of something else
- God is the degree of perfection we can compare things too.
deff: Aquinas Argument to prove the existence of God based through observations in the world that prove Gods ability to have created this world. God is usually referred to as the prime mover.
DAVID HUME:
Fallacy of composition: we cannot logically jump from the idea that everything in the universe has a reason to the idea that the universe as a whole has a reason. you cannot move from individual things requiring an explanation to the universe as a whole requiring anexplanation
Hume further argues that we can imagine something coming into existence without a cause and that it is not illogical

OBJECTIONS:
-
This is maybe proof of a God but not a God that wants anything to do with humanity or is even omnibenevolent
-
Tea-pot fallacy: the world is orbited by a tiny tea pot that is unable to been seen by any telescope. it cannot be proven or disproven. this sounds ridiculous. however there is not evidence for nor against and therefore it must be logical to be agnostic.
