TOPIC 28 TRANSPORTS
LAND TRANSPORTATION
During the first half of the 20th century,
the Guayaquil-Quito railroad was an axis of transport and national articulation.
The growth of the automotive fleet, especially in large cities, has turned transport into a source of air pollution, noise and congestion.
During the second half of the 20th century until the present, road construction was intense. In Ecuador, there are more than one million vehicles.
The excessive number of private vehicles generates congestion and encourages the excessive use of fuel. Public transport, on the other hand, consumes less in proportion to the number of passengers it transports.
AIR TRANSPORTATION
Air transport was developed for the export of fish, shellfish, and flowers.
International air traffic has increased in recent years, especially through the airports of Quito and Guayaquil.
Most of the passengers that enter through Quitocome from Bogotá, Miami, and Lima. In Guayaquil, most come from Miami, Madrid, and Panama. Quitohas a strong relationship with Bogotá and Guayaquil with New York.
