According to the data, more than 100 million Earth-like planets have been discovered in our galaxy alone, which have been called exoplanets or extrasolar planets.
What is extrasolar or exoplanet ?
-
-
An extrasolar planet or exoplanet is a planet that orbits a star other than the Sun and therefore does not belong to the solar system. Extrasolar planets became the subject of scientific research in the 20th century. Many astronomers assumed their existence, but lacked the means to identify them. The first confirmed detection was made in 1992, with the discovery of several Earth-mass planets orbiting the Lich Wolszczan pulsar.
FUN FACTS
It takes Mercury 59 days to make one rotation but only 88 days to go around the sun. This means that there are less than 2 days in a year! Many astronomers think that Mercury may be the center of what was once a much larger planet - its appearance is that of a huge iron ball covered in a thin layer of rock.
