Writing Advice (from author Anne Lamott)
General Writing Strategies/ Getting Started : :pencil2:
-
-
Start by writing your memories, as truthfully as you can.
-
You do not need to know exactly how a first draft will develop, it gains clarity as you write, much like a taking a Polaroid Picture.
Getting in a "Writing Frame of Mind"
Your core ethics are the language of your writing. Learn to tell your truth. Look for flickers of insight.
When you don't know what to do in your writing "get real quiet and try to hear that small voice inside. It will tell you what to do."
-
Notice what you are being self-critical. Try a small ritual to quiet the critical voice before writing.
Ritual can=taking a breath, small prayer, whatever works!
Helpful Writing Tips
Keep index cards on hand. When inspiration strikes, jot the idea down and keep the cards in a jar for later reference.
Get information from helpful others for your writing-people often love to share what they know! Pick up the phone.
