Launcelot, Lorenzo, Jessica
Launcelot feels that Jessica is in deep trouble since her father has done some bad deeds. He thinks it is wrong for Lorenzo to make her convert into Christianity since it will raise the price of pork. When Lorenzo tells him to remind the servants to get dinner ready, he plays with Lorenzo’s words to mock him
When Lorenzo arrives, he is upset that Launcelot has been talking with Jessica secretly. He argues with Launcelot and justifies that Launcelot has also been doing things worse than him. Lorenzo jokes that he is as good to Jessica as Portia is to Bassanio.
Jessica says that Launcelot feels that Lorenzo is responsible for converting her into a Christian. When asked by Lorenzo, she says that Portia is the best wife Bassanio can ever have, and there is no one that can match Portia. Jessica jokes with Lorenzo using wordplay, and afterwards they sety off to have dinner.

Launcelot is a cheeky person. Although he is a servant, he still jokes with Lorenzo and makes him angry by telling Jessica that he is irresponsible.
Jessica says that “He tells me flatly there is no mercy for me in heaven because I am a Jew’s daughter, and he says you are no good member of the commonwealth, for in converting Jews to Christians you raise the price of pork.”
Launcelot says “For the table, sir, it shall be served in. For the meat, sir, it shall be covered. For your coming in to dinner, sir, why, let it be as humours and conceits shall govern.”
Jessica is humble. She compliments Portia and Lorenzo but not herself.
She says “Past all expressing. It is very meet The Lord Bassanio live an upright life, For having such a blessing in his lady,” She also tells Lorenzo, “Nay, let me praise you while I have a stomach.”
