Act 3 Scene 1 - Coggle Diagram
Act 3 Scene 1
Main Characters
Solanio, Salarino, Shylock and Tubal
Solanio and Salarino are worried about Antonio as they heard that he had a ship carrying expensive cargo that was shipwrecked in the English Channel on the Goodwin Sands, a very dangerous sandbar. When Shylock approaches, they admit that they knew of Jessica’s plans, and thought it was a natural thing for children to do. Salarino says that Shylock should not call his daughter his flesh and blood since their personalities are completely different. Antonio calls to meet them later on.
Shylock became angry since his daughter had run away from him. He also becomes upset as he also made another bad deal with Antonio. He only made that deal to feed his revenge by cutting a pound of flesh from Antonio if he failed to pay back his loan. He justified himself, saying that if Christians treat him badly, he has the right to revenge.
Tubal plays with Shylock’s feelings by telling him good and bad news interchangeably, one about Jesscia spending his money away, another about Antonio’s wrecked ships.
