SCIENCE MIND MAP
Atom
Examples of things made of atoms would be pillows, plants, beds, any food, computers, clothes, balloons, animals, and anything else in the world.
Definition: The smallest particle of an element that can exist either alone or in combination
Words that are related to atom are atomic weight, atomic mass, and atomic number.
Atomic weight relates the word atom because it is the weight of one atom. Atom mass relates to the word atom because it is the mass of an atom. (atomic mass generally mean the same thing as atomic weight it is just a different way to word it). Atomic number relates to the word atom because it means a number, a characteristic of a chemical element that represents the number of protons in the nucleus. Which in a neutral atom equals the number of electrons outside the nucleus that determines the place of the element in the periodic table
Molecule
Definition: The smallest particle of a substance that retains all the properties of the substance and is composed of one or more atoms
Examples of things that are made of molecules are h20, N2, O3, CaO, and there are many more examples.
Words related to the word molecules are particle, element, and compounds.
The word particle relates to the word molecule because it means a small quantity or fragment and a molecule is an atom bonded with another different type of atom. (Atoms are very, very small). The word element relates to the word molecule because in order to have an element you need molecules. Compound relates to the word molecule because a compound to be made you need two or more elements and you cannot have those elements if you do not have molecules.
Mixture
Definition: The act of mixing two or more things together that are not chemically combined.
Examples of mixture would be coffee with milk, water with any flavoring, tea with sugar, pasta with sauce, and mxing silver, copper, and a little zinc makes yellow gold.
Words that are related to mixture is compounds, mixing, and elements.
The word compound is related to mixture because when you mix two elements together you get a compound. The word mixing relate to mixture because in order to have a mixture you need to be mixing the two elements together. The word elements relates to mixture because most likely the things that you are minxing have an element in them or are an element.
Pure substance
Definition: A chemical substance that is made of just one atom
Example of pure substances are pure sugar, table salt, diamonds, gold, sand ulfur.
Words relate to the word pure substance are material, elements, and atom
The word material is related to pure substances because in order to have a pure substance you need different materials. The word element relates to pure substance because a pure substance is just a plane element. The word atom relates to pure substances because in order to have a pure substance you need to have atoms that are not mixed with other atoms
Definition:To take two or more parts and from a whole
Example of compounds would be water, carbon dioxide, hydrogen peroxide, and the air we breathe in.
Compound
Words that are related to compound are combination, mixture, and element.
The word combination relates to compound because a compound would not be able to be a compound if there was no such thing as a combination of things. The word bonding relates to compounds because bonding means combining things together and a compound is elements bonded together. The word elements relates to compounds because of there was no elements you would not be able to mix them together to create a compound.
Elements
Words that related to elements are atom, component, and periodic table.
The word atom relates to elements because if we did not have atoms we would not be able to make elements. The word component relates to elements because different components make up different elements. The periodic table relates to elements because the periodic table is how the elements are organized.
Definition: A substance that cannot be broken down into simpler substances. An element is composed of atoms that have the same atomic number
Examples of elements are Au=gold, Li=lithium, Sn=tin, Cu=copper, and there are many more elements.
