The water of life and Sensational Seeds, Plants and Flowers all around me
English Home Language
Phonological Awareness
- Revision of all T3 sounds written and read: d, g, o, u, l, f, b, j, y, z, w (Assessment Task Activity)
- Remembering and repeating 4 words/sounds/pictures in a series.
- Clapping out selected words in speech syllables.
Use words from the story. Mention 4 in a row. Can learners remember and repeat the 4 words in the correct order.
-
Listening and Speaking
- Remembering and following 3 instructions/announcements in a series (Immediate reaction and completion of instructions in the correct order)
- Listening without interruption (also to long stories), taking turn, respecting the speaker.
- Placing 6 pictures from the story in the correct sequence of events (telling of the story individually, retelling the story a friend has told)
Take learners outside. Tell the learners 3 instructions/announcements in a series. Learners must follow the instructions immediately and complete the instructions in the correct order.
Learners listen to the story without interrupting. They must take turn to answer the questions about the story and show respect to the speaker
Learners complete the story sequence (The Enormous turnip) about the story in their ISN after the story.
Grammar
- Spell simple words phonetically, drawing on knowledge of sound-letter relationships. Look at picture and write 3 letter words with sounds learnt so far E.g.: b-u-s, c-a-t etc.
Learners look at the picture cards and then spell simple 3 letter words phonetically.(c-a-t, b-u-s, c-a-r)
Emergent Writing
- Writing letters d, g, o, u, l, f, b, j, y, z, w
- Motor control: Left - right lines, S movements and lazy-8 movements.
- Cutting more complex pictures
-
-
Do motor control exercises: Left-right, big S movements, and lazy-8 movements. (Follow with eyes)
Emergent Reading
- Can match words to objects: matches labels to labeled items on an interest/theme table (Informal Assessment)
- Saying what happened in the beginning/middle and end of the story.
- Predict what will happen in the beginning/middle and end of story.
-
Figure background separation: Can learners handle figure background separation and find the picture from the pattern in the big picture. ISN activity.
Mathematics
Numbers, Operations and Relationship:
- Concept 1: Knows number bonds of 10
- Concept 2: Recognising numbers and number names in the environment.
- Fluent rote counting to 10
- Count out and forwards/backwards to/from 7
- Ordinal numbers first to seventh Introduce the number 7 (number symbol 7; seven dots/pictures/symbols; number name seven)
- Investigate number 7 in context
-
Write numbers 0 - 10 on paper plates. Learners must count out the correct number of blocks/counters and place it on the paper plate and then match the correct number name to the number symbol.
Counting: Let learners count their toes, pointing to each toe with the opposite hand as they count. Repeat the procedure with other body parts. The learner must cross his/her midline each time in order to count something on the other side. Afterwards, play Simon says while asking learners to touch different body parts (touch your left elbow, touch your right knee etc)
Patterns, Functions and Algebra:
- Special attention to grouping and sharing leading to division.
- Establishing many/few.
Establishing many/few: Give instructions such as the following: Elsie, clap your hands a few times. Nesta clap your hands many times. Now clap a few times/many times yourself: Did I clap few times or many times? Choose 2 learners to each clap a few times. Ask: Who gave the most/least claps?
Space and Shape
- Build from 2-D to 3-D
- Add 18-piece puzzle
Do a quick revision of the prescribed 2D and 3dD shapes. Give learners pattern cards and let them copy the patterns. Can they look at the plan and name the 3D objects that are used?
Give the learners a page with 2D shapes. They must colour in, cut out and create their own pattern using the shapes. Note repeating colours/shape/size.
Measurement
- Capacity/volume with concepts full/empty fuller/fullest; emptier/emptiest; just as much/full; a lot/a little (Assessment task activity)
- conservation of volume (amount of liquid)
- water science with regard to displacement when objects are put in water
Learners revise the concept of capacity with different sized containers and water. Use concepts such as: full/empty fuller/fullest; emptier/emptiest; just as much/full; a lot/a little. Then they complete the ISN activity.
Data Handling
- Math/STEAM integration: Plotting the weather for a week on a graph (integrated with science)
GP 2
- Introduce SA banknotes and coins are revised
