Paper 1
tropical storms
Formation: between 5 and 30 degrees north+south of the equator - sea 27+ degrees - area of low pressure
Location: Trpical storms form in varous areas of the pacific ocean causing damage to the carribean islands, bahamas, virgin islands ect
-
Definition: a localized, very intense low-pressure wind system, forming over tropical oceans and with winds of hurricane force
tectonic hazards
Responces: Countrys send aid - water and food aid sent - money sent to government from other countrues - serach and rescue
Short term effects: Search and rescue - loss of lives - infrastructure destroyed or damaged - food and water shortage
-

-
climate change
-
Solutions: - use renewable energy - recycle - reduce carbon footprint - eat less meat - keep less cars off the road - reduce energy use - protect green spaces
-
Extreme Weather
Definition - Extreme weather is when a weather event is significantly different from the average or usual weather pattern
Examples: large amount of rainfall in one go - high winds - hail - flash flood - head wave - cold spell - drought
-
Paper 2
tropical rainforest
Examples: Amazon rainforest - congo rainforest - daintree rainforest - tongass national rainforest - valdivian rainforest
Structure: bottom to top - forest floor, shurb layer, under canopy, canopy, emergent
Location: 23.5 degrees N+S of the equator - found in central and south America, western and central Africa, western India, southeast Asia
Desert
desertification
-
Causes: deforestation - farming - overpopulation - animal grazing - mining - waste production - acid rain - natural causes
Animal/plant adaptaitons
Camel: hump to store fat - long eyelashes to keep sand out - wide feet to walk on sand - can close nostrils
Cactus: long reets to search for water - spikes to keep animals away - waxy skin to reduce water loss
-
-
ecosystems
-
Food webs: food webs describe the relationships, links or connections between speices in an ecosystem.

Paper 3
Water
water insecurity
Water security is when the entire population of a country has sustainable access to acceptably clean water. Water insecurity means that many girls living in some rural areas of developing countries can spend hours walking to collect water rather than attending school
chinas water transfer scheme: the scheme is to transfer water from the south of china to the north of china through a $62 billion project
Resource managment
mangaing water quality: countries north of the equator have a water scarcity, countries south of the equator experience some water scarcity. countries along the equator experience enough water
food: all countries produce different food and is transported all around the world, for example is asia they grow rice and sugar where as in south america, they grow more oil crops
energy demand: Saudi Arabia, Russia and the USA produce the most oil. USA, Russia and China have the largest coal reserves. Russia, Iran and Qatar have the largest natural gas reserves. It is estimated that global energy consumption in 2040 will be 56% higher than in 2010
Definition: the efficient and effective development of an organization's resources when they are needed
