Benefits- Find exactly what you are looking for by focusing on keywords and symbols.
Techniques- Doesn't require thorough reading and understanding of a text.
Main uses- Looking for information that will be of relevance to you and your investigation.
INTENSIVE READING
Benefits- Gives you a detailed understanding of what you are reading. Exercises your ability for comprehension and vocabulary.
Techniques- Requires you to pick out figurative and literal meanings and rhetorical statements. Focuses on tone and the type of language used.
Main uses- A thorough form of reading that demands utmost attention and understanding of what you are reading.
STUDY READING
Benefits- You learn to remember instead of forgetting. Gives you a deep understanding about what the text is referring to.
Techniques- Requires a full attention span and you must be able to read and make sense of what is written in the text.
Main uses- Reading for understanding rather than learning. Understanding the author's purpose of the text. Relating the content to what you already know.
