The Shadow
Setting
Brave lives with his mother in the foothills below the mountains of the West. They work as cider makers and tend an orchard. The book begins in the fall. The orchard is struggling from continual cold weather.
There is a shadow growing on the mountains, specifically a great pinochle. Once a great necromancer went to the forbidden peak seeking power and knowledge. He released some sort of disaster on the hills and valley. In this setting, once again the elders of the Ardvari, the guardians of the mountains believe the necromancer is still alive, or someone has returned to the mountain seeking power and knowledge.
Begins in the foothills of the Ardvari, where the hill-folk have lived for centuries. Below them are the valley-folk who are settlers who fled west when the technology bubble pooped.

Plot
Lavender hides him from the village and helps him escape to the west. Following them without her knowledge, her younger brother sets out to adventure with Brave
Brave Adventures East and encounters strange lands full of danger. People are wary of the roads. They encounter humanlike robotic animals that they fight in the mountains.
Brave goes to the forbidden village because he is falling in love with Lavender. In the town he touches an ancient tree and lighting strikes, and out of the tree grows spring blossoms. The village folk search for him to capture him.
Brave gets commissioned by the Elders of the village to find a recluse to the East living at the base of a mountain. They tell him he comes from a line who has the power to defeat whatever fell thing is on the mountain.
Brave finds his uncle who doesn't train him in the way he thinks he should be. He is married to a lady of the East. He learns that inner strength is better then outer power.
Brave fights the mountain who eventually is stronger, relalized the shadow exists because of the war, violence and killing between people. His hope and love for Lavender kills the shadow. He returns home in hope of convincing his town and Lavender to find peace.
