The process of writing down observations
Start by making a list of general questions or observations you gather from the text
Make a block diagram or book chart
Begin by carefully reading the text word for word
Analyze "key words" or repetitive words in Scripture
Observe the text for themes or changes to the theme
Pay attention to conjunctions
Cause and effect
Lists in the text
Figure of speech
Author intent vs. reader response
Observe the overall text as a whole and remember to read what the author is saying and not only take what we want from the text
