Helped with gathering materials such as chemicals, wood, textile and clothing
Lithuanians were called over by Scotland for some to work in iron and steel companies

Iron masters were looking for miners, the Lithuanians fitted the bill for that

Fitting in
Lithuanians made up only a small percent of Scotland's population, they faced limited discrimination then but it didn't stop
Lived in poor areas, cause anger if seen to add to overcrowding, not needed around
Lithuanians were Catholic, bringing in unnecessary conflict with protestant Scots
How They Tried
To help them coincide with the Scots the Lithuanians would change their surname to something traditional to fit in, e.g. BROWN was popular
Even if they did it illegally and it wasn't properly registered
Lithuanians went to get involved in trade unions and work to associate with the Scots to create friends
