IN SEASON: competition phase general increase in intensity, decrease in training volume (to avoid overtraining). Aiming to maintain stamina, practise and improve tactics/strategies, perfect skill execution, gain competitive experience, develop mental skills ---> achieved through supplementary work on required fitness components ie. strength, flexibility, power, agility and speed, use of highly specific practice drills, continuation of conditioning training, use of smaller games, grids, resistance work to increase intensity and to provide relief between competitions.
