BIOMOLECULES
AMINO ACIDS
-
-
Contain Hydrogen, Carboxyl, Amino and Variable (R-group) groups
-
-
Aromatic amino acids: Cyclic compounds. Tryosine, Tryptophan, Phenylalanine
-
-
-
NUCLEIC ACIDS
NITROGENOUS BASES:
-
They always form the base pairs. The base pairs always consist of a purine and pyramidine. Adenine and Thymine are bonded by a double hydrogen bond while Cytosine and Guanine are bonded by a triple hydrogen bond.
Purines: Adenine and Guanine
Pyramidines: Cytosine, Thymine and Uracil
NUCLEOSIDES:
Adenosine, Guanosine, Cytidine, Thymidine and Uridine
-
NUCLEOTIDES:
-
Adenylic acid, Guanylic acid, Thymidylic acid, Cytidylic acid and Uridylic acid
-
Nucleic acid containing deoxyribose sugar is called deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) and that containing ribose sugar is called ribonucleic acid (RNA)
POLYSACCHARIDES
-
-
Homopolymer:
Consist of only one type of monomer. Eg: Cellulose (Glucose), Inulin (Fructose)
Heteropolymer:
Consist of two or more types of monomers. Eg: Starch (Amylose, Amylopectin), Chitin
