4-REGIONAL CULTURES In Ecuador, diverse cultures have been developed that are settled in the regions, which have their own customs, ways of speaking, cooking, etc. For example, farmers from the coast (montuvios) have a very characteristic culture, which is expressed in their way of life, work, fun, etc. A similar reality is that of the “chagras”, who are the rural mestizos of the Andean region. The regions and provinces also have strong cultural traits. For example, Manabí or Loja have a specific way of speaking Spanish. Each province has its own food, festivities, customs, and social organization. "Manabitismo" and "lojanidad" have very own characteristics that people recognize without doubt. Azuay, Carchi, and other provinces also have strong identities.
