SOB, Chest tightness, facial flushing, low back pn, IV site pain, edema generalized, muscle pain, Increased RR, jaundice, fever, hypertension
Why are blood cells given?
-given to replace blood anemia. Hgb <7 or symptomatic.
1 unit= increase Hgb by 1g/dl
-requires ABO, Rh incompatibility and crossmatch

Nursing goals:
-prevention!
-decreased WBC's
-Irridated blood (blood w/ radiation to get rid of specific things (i.e WBC's) if need be
-STOP the transfusion if reaction is suspected!
-Assess the patient
