Central America, also called Central America, is the geographic region within the American continent between North America and South America. It is surrounded by the Pacific Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean (Caribbean Sea). Politically it is divided into seven independent countries: Guatemala, Belize, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama. From the historical-cultural point of view, some historians delimit the region comprised by the former territories of the Kingdom of Guatemala, that is, the current republics of Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua and Costa Rica, in addition to the administrative divisions to the south and southeast of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec in Mexico.
