METALS AND NON- METALS
METALS
PHYSICAL PROPERTIES
Malleable, i.e., can be beaten into thin sheets
Ductile, i.e., can be drawn into thin wires
Solids at room temperature, except mercury, which is liquid at room temperature.

CHEMICAL PROPERTIES
Metals like sodium, potassium, lithium and calcium react vigorously with dilute HCl and H2SO4 to form their metal salt and hydrogen gas.
Metals which fall below hydrogen in the reactivity series does not react with dilute acids.
When more reactive metal react with solution of less reactive metal salt, more reactive metal displace less reactive metal from its salt and forms hydrogen gas, such a reaction is known as displacement reaction.
Some metals react with water to form metal hydroxide and hydrogen gas
Some metals like copper, gold, silver and platinum do not react with water

NON METALS
CHEMICAL PROPERTIES
-
Generally, Non-metals do not react with acids.
