The Second Moroccan Crisis (1911): To prevent rebellions in Morocco, France brought troops into the city of Fes. On July 1, 1911, a gunboat, SMS Panther, was sent to the port of Agadir by Germany. The gunboat was brought to scare the French, but Britain interpreted it as the Germans trying to establish a naval base on Morocco’s Atlantic coast, and thus interfere with their naval domination of the area.
Similarly to The First Moroccan Crisis, Germany was still unable to break apart the Entente Cordiale between Britain and France. They were compensated for France obtaining Morocco by receiving unwanted lands in Africa, which further soured relations between Britain, France and Germany.
