Sustainability” is a means of configuring civilization and human activity so that society and its members are able to meet their needs and express their greatest potential in the present while preserving biodiversity and natural ecosystems, and planning and acting for the ability to maintain these ideals indefinitely.
Sustainable development pertains to a great variety of attitudes, behaviours, places, objects, and processes. It includes governance, trade and industry, municipal services and many other services such as health and education as well as civic duty, the responsible management of public and natural resources and it furthermore refers to decision making about public and environmental issues, and balancing the sometimes conflicting goals of environmental protection, economic development and personal rights and freedoms.
