Support services provide help to individuals or businesses. They may include accountants and other financial services, or management services to help companies manage their work.

Some services do not make money. Often times, the government pays workers because these services are important for the development of society. Some examples are education, health and safety services.

The direct sale of goods to an individual is called retailing. In the past, customers had to go to stores to buy almost everything they wanted or needed. Today, many people buy products online.

Trade is when goods are bought and sold between companies: traders buy goods from the secondary sector and sell them to retailers, then the retailer sells to the final consumer. When a trader buys and sells in the same country, it is called domestic trade, but if the trader buys in one country and sells to another, it is called international trade.

Trade and retail depend on transport to move goods from the place where they are produced to the shops or to the warehouses which store the goods until they are needed.

People need to move from home to other places such as work or school. It is not always possible to walk or use a bicycle for this because the distances are sometimes too great. This means that other forms of transportation are very important in modern society.
