Rules and structure
Adapt the pronoun.
Depending on who you are speaking to, you will need to adapt the pronoun in the sentence to refer to that person.
Don't use quotes.
When transforming the original message, it is not a quote, therefore you do not have to use the quotations marks, the quotation marks.
Use the past simple.
The main verb, known as the reporting verb, we will almost always use it in the past simple. In general we will use "said" if it is affirmative, and "asked" if it is interrogative, but when it is specified to whom it is addressed, then "told" is used.
Whenever possible, omit the “that”.
Being a relative pronoun, a relative pronoun, it can be omitted in these sentences as long as it sounds natural.
