Immigrants were coming from all over Europe
but the main gruops were from
Italy,Germany,Ireland...
they escaped from extreme poverty,famine,unemployent
religion and radical persecutions
after a long and ardous voyage
immigrants arrived at the island
were tagged whit information from their ship's registry
then,they waited on long lines for medical inspections
to determinate if they were fit for entry into the U.S.A
Located at the mouth of Hudson river
beetween New York and New Jersey
Ellis Island was the largest immigrations station in the United States from 1924 to 1992
Over 12 million immigrants came thorugh Ellis island
It was nicknamed the "Island of hope" for immigrants coming to America to find better life
Saw millions of newly arrived to pass his door
Infact it has been estimated
that 40% of all current americans citienzs
can trace at least one of their ancestors to Ellis island
Today Ellis island is part of the national park service
along with the statue of liberty.
and tourists can visit the island
where the main building is now an immigration museum
