transcription- in the nucleus. RNA polymerase unwinds DNA and breaks hydrogen bonds. RNA polymerase brings free mRNA nucleotides and aligns them with template strand. bases pair up and weak hydrogen bonds form. mRNA strand forms and bonds form between the nucleotides. hydrogen bonds holding DNA and mRNA break allowing primary mRNA transcript to leave nucleus and enter the ribosome
RNA splicing- regions of DNA that code are called exons, non- coding regions are called introns. introns are cut out and exons are spliced together to form the mature mRNA transcript
translation- ribosome binds to 5' end of mRNA. codons on mRNA are complementary to anti-codons on tRNA. molecule of tRNA carries specific amino acids and aligns with mRNA. when 1st 2 amino acids are adjacent, peptide bonds form between them. process continues and the polypeptide chain is released when the stop codon is reached.
