castro made little attempts to stop people from leaving if they didnt want to stay
he encouraged, the mentally ill, the criminals and the anti socials to leave Cuba
however he soon began to realize that they were losing skilled personnel
regulations were put in place to ensure people could only leave with an acceptable reason
however inorder to remove political tension he allowed large numbers to leave
in reaction to the food ratining 10,000 cubans, besieged Cubas peruvian embassy appealing for asylum
he always intended to shows that a mass part of population backed him and the regime
Castro created the CDR; Committees for the Defense of tje Revolution, the role of this was to have people report counter revolutionary actions
the CDR was in operation at every workplace, it was a method of peer survielance that intimidated everyone
many cuban believed that the CDR was a contribution to the goals of the revoluton and ensured what was gained wouldnt be lost
the use of force control and repressing opposition was clearly demonstrated in the UMAP(

castro's leadership position either gathered intense affection by his attempts with the poor or a profound dislike based on his attempt to destroy rights and liberties
one of Castro's bodygaurds said he counted 638 assassination attempts
the large numbers suggested the danger Castro was continuously in, based on the degree of hatred he faced
he onced joked that if surviving these attemtpt was an olympic sport he would be a multi-gold winner
the CIA was thought to be behind many of these attempts
Oppositions Weakness
the opposition was never united and the disaffected groups were unable to concert their efforts, nor had they planned to
Castro's status, was the embodiment of Cuban aspirations and opposition to him was deemed unpatriotic and so rarely gathered support
the firmness that Castro dealt with for his problems and challenges made it hazardous to challenge him
Castro's society made it easy for him to spy out opposition with eavesdropping and surveillance
