HISTORY OF QUALITATIVERESEARCH
CHARACTERISTICS
Naturalist:
The word naturalistic comes from ecological approaches in biology and is defined as a non-experimental approach in which subjects are studied in their natural environment.
Descriptive data:
The data collected in qualitative research takes the form of words or pictures rather than numbers. The data could include interview transcripts, photographs, field notes, videos, personal documents, and other official records.
Concern for the process:
Qualitative research focuses on process rather than results; so this uses multiple interactives. The three main data collection methods, focus group, in-depth interviews, and participant observation, involve more active participation from the participants.
Inductive:
Qualitative research analyzes data inductively, which means that theories or concepts are built on the basis of data collection. This approach uses a bottom-up direction to understand situations, focus on behaviors, build theories, and reach conclusions.
Significant:
Qualitative researchers know that meaning is an essential concern for the qualitative approach; and that is the reason why they are really interested in the perspectives of the participants (Erickson, 1986); and these perspectives focus on the assumptions that participants make about their lives and what they take for granted.

DEFINITION
It is a technique that collects data and evaluates it in a non-standard way. Small samples are usually taken and with the aim of gaining a deeper understanding of decisions and motivation.
In qualitative research they incorporate group discussions, qualitative observation or interviews. All results and responses are not represented quantitatively but based on context.

ETHICS
-
These processes can involve moments of tension and sometimes hurt the sensitivity of the participants.
In other words, what ethics seeks in qualitative research is to do good, avoid harm, make decisions and assume the consequences of these.
In order not to misuse the research, precautions and codes of ethics should be established based on values and norms to protect the privacy of the participants.
Some ethical considerations should be taken into account when conducting qualitative research such as:
