Injuries in Sports: what are the most common injuries and what are the main causes?
Human Body
Muscles
Muscles are attached to bones by tendons. This helps them move. When the muscle bunches up (contracts) it shrinks pulling the bone it's attached to and goes back to its original size after the muscle relaxes.
There are three main types of muscles: skeletal, smooth and cardiac.
There are about 600 muscles in the human body.
Muscle Injuries
Muscle cramps can be caused by dehydration, low levels of potassium and magnesium, and disorders.
Muscles or muscle group that aren't properly developed.
Muscle weakness.
Bone Injuries
Fractures
Most are caused by falls and accidents
Compound fractures causes injury to the overlying skin.
Types:
Avulsion fracture (when a muscle or ligament pulls on the bone).
Comminuted fracture (bones shattered into multiple pieces).
Compression (crush) fracture (often occurs in the spongy bone in the spine).
Fracture dislocation (when a joint is dislocated and fractured).
Greenstick fracture (when the bone partly fractures because the rest of the bone can't break due to bendiness).
Hairline fracture (a partial fracture).
Impacted fracture (when one part of the bone goes into another when fractures).
Intraarticular fracture (where the break exteneds into the surface of a joint).
Longitudinal fracture (when the break is along the length of the bone).
Oblique fracture (when the fracture is diagonal to a bone's long axis).
Pathological fractures (caused by disease).
Spiral fracture (when at least one of the parts of the bones that are fractures is twisted).
Stress fracture (a bone breaks after repeated stresses and strains).
Torus (buckle) fracture (when a bone deforms but not crack).
Transverse fracture (a straight break right across the bone).
Classifications for an Injury
An injury is when your body is damaged by an external force
Common Types

Weapons
Major physical trauma can be long-time or can even cause death.
