Periodic Table
Groups. Each vertical column is a group. The elements in each group have the same number of electrons in the outer orbital/shell so they have similar properties.
Group 1 = Alkali metals - very reactive, react with oxygen, and water.
Properties = - soft - malleable - low melting points - good conductors of heat - good conductors of electricity - very reactive (explosive with water) (oxidizes (turns grey) with air)
Examples = Lithium (batteries and medicine), Sodium (table salt), Potassium (fertilizer and detergents).

Metals = usually shiny + dense + have high melting points. Heat and electricity travels easily through it.
Non metals = lower density, will melt at a lower temp, are poor conductors of heat and electricity.
