IMPAIRED CEREBRAL CIRCULATION - Coggle Diagram
IMPAIRED CEREBRAL CIRCULATION
Definition
Is a condition whereby less oxygen and glucose reach the braine, this may cause brain damage and neurological disorders
Causes
The intracranial pressure constitutes an increased interstitial hydrostatic pressure that in turn causes a decreased driving force capillary filtration from the blood vessels of intracerebral.
Less blood flow in the brain is caused by increased intracranial pressure( ICP).
Clinical manifestations
Nausea and dizziness
Peripheral oedema
Confusion
Altered skin colour
Hypotension
Pathophysiology
Both oxygen and nutrients diffuse from the blood to the interstitial fluid then to blood cells. In form of feeding them. Insufficient nutrition and oxygenation in cellular level may cause brain damage or death.
Blood is a connective tissue composed of a liquid extracellular matrix termed as blood plasma which dissolves and suspends multiple cells and cell fragments. It carries oxygen from the lungs and nutrients from the GIT.
Nursing intervention
Reduce cardiac workload ( position the patient to minimize discomfort and facilitate respiration.
Insert IV line, administer O2, medication and 12 lead ECG as ordered
Anticipate the need to initiate CPR.
Assess for contributing factors( pain, fluid and electrolyte imbalance, drug toxicity, medication non adherence.
Monitor vital signs half houry and report signs and symptoms of cardiac dysrhythimias
Diagnostic studies
MRIs
CT scans
Cerebral angiography
Nursing diagnosis
In effective cerebral tissue perfusion due to intracranial pressure or high volume blood loss
