ACID - Coggle Diagram
ACID
Properties of Acids
Have a sour taste
Dissolve in water to form solutions which conduct electricity
Turn blue litmus paper red
Definition
a substance that produces hydrogen ions in aqueous solution
Acids react with active metal to form a salt and hydrogen gas
METAL
Physical properties
high densities, melting points and boiling points
good conductors of heat and electricity
shiny, ductile and malleable
The reactivity Series
Potassium(K) is the most reactive metal in the series.
Gold(Au) is the least reactive metal in the series
Displacement Reactions of Metals
When a more reactive metal is placed in a salt solution of a less reactive metal, it will displace the less reactive metal from its salt solution.
Cu + 2AgNO3 -> Cu(NO3)2 + 2Ag
Reactions of Metals with Water
The metal is dissolved in water
Hydrogen gas is formed during the reaction
2K + 2H20 -> 2KOH + H2
Reactions of Metals with Dilute Hydrochloric Acid
Can be seen as the displacement of hydrogen in the acid by a more reactive metal
Lead, copper, silver and gold show no reaction with HCl.
