Vascular malformations
Definition
Defects in vascular system
It consist of many abnormal blood vessels
Pathophysiology
Arteries dilate as result of increased blood flow through lesion
Veins enlarge as flow increases
creating vicious cycle that increase lesions size
large blood flow through arteriovenous malformation render adjacent areas
high flow state lead to increased pressure
and haemorrhage into subarachnoid space and parenchymal tissue
Clinical manifestations
Seizures
memory deficit
dementia
hallucinations
dizziness
paralysis
language problems
Nursing interventions
Minimise external stimuli and maintain blood pressure level
Maintain patent airway and administer oxygen as ordered to prevent hypoxemia
Administer antihypertensive as ordered to control BP
