POPULAR HOLIDAYS
The parties are celebrated with holidays in each region, indigenous traditions change.
The carbaval, for example, is known in Ambato as the "festival of the flopres" and they are celebrated with carousels and parades, the queen of the Carnival is chosen.

Throughout the country the "old year" is burned, the character embodies, according to some, the negative and bad things of the year.
Another traditional festivity is the Day of the Dead, when relatives visit their dead people in the cemetery. Common food is "colada morada" with "guaguas de pan".

RELIGIOUSNESS
The people of our country have devotion to "La Virgen del Quinche", whose sanctuary is located in the northeast of Quito.
"La Virgen del Cisne" in the province of Loja; or the "Sacred Heart of Jesus", whose presence in Ecuador dates back to colonial times.

Besides these, there are other popular devotions, such as “Hermano Gregorio” and “El Divino Niño”, which comes from Colombia.

POPULAR MEDICINE
It is made up of medical knowledge transmitted by tradition who use natural and magical elements for healing of physical and spiritual illnesses.
On the coast, the tsáchilas and chachis make shamanic cures
In the province of Esmeraldas, popular medicine incorporates Afro-Ecuadorian customs.
In the Andean region, popular medicine is represented in rural areas by the "yachac" and in the cities by the "yuyeras"
The Amazon preserves healing techniques based in the properties of plants. The shaman is called curaca.

POPULAR ART
The same happens with the Zuleta Embroidery, made by the peasants. from the south of Ibarra.
Another example of popular art are the Marzipan Figures that are made in Calderón (Quito), the Azuay Ceramic Figures, among others.
For example, the Toquilla Straw Hat that is manufactured in Montecristi (Manabí).
The expressions of popular art in Ecuador are diverse and very rich, but they are all part of our common identity.

POPULAR FOOD
There are certain characteristic dishes of a specific region or locality. For example, guatita, ceviche, fanesca, mote pillo del azuay, rice with stew
To the ingredients such as: potato and corn (from the Andean region) fish and bananas (from the Costa region), pork and grains (from Europe) and rice (from Asia) are added.
The great variety of dishes, local and regional food, and the different ways of eating are another expression of our diversity.

THE MYTHS AND LEGENDS
They refer to the origins of families and peoples, to diseases and ways of curing them, fears of imaginary characters (ghosts, the dead that are resurrected, goblins and sorcerers).
The myths and legends that exist in societies are the stories and practices that remain in popular memory.

Our Ecuadorian popular culture is very varied and expressed in crafts, foods, myths and legends, languages and dialects, medicines, religious, etc.
