Parent-Adolescent conflict = the children want more autonomy whereas the parents are reluctant to give them too much
Children ultimately want emotional support and to be listened to/ not materialistic things, they want

Infancy
Caregiver-infant synchrony made impt, understanding and then responding to the infant's needs appropriately

Emotional Response = displaying basic emotions from happiness, sadness and angry etc
Self-recognition = develops around 15-24 months, and is demonstrated through the rouge test

Early Childhood
Relationships with peers and siblings = indvs have an opportunity to socialise with siblings and peers from childcare/preschool

Self-conscious emotions = their understanding of the self allows them to display secondary emotions like pride, shame and embarrassment
Self-esteem = based on one aspect, if i'm bad at this, i'm bad at everything
Middle/Late Childhood
Potential for family structure to change from divorced parents, and to other complex structures from blended families to stepfamilies.

Self-description = moves beyond observable features and incorporates aspects of social description and comparison

Middle Adulthood
ageing parents = helping ageing parents is a new developmental task where the parental care tends to fall on the daughter
Empty nest = marital satisfaction increases for most parents as they have more time and money to themselves
Mid-career/late career = job is considered an important aspect of their lives and may start preparing for retirement

Erikson = Generativity vs Stagnation = adults in middle adulthood have a desire to leave legacies to the next generation
Middlescence = similar to adolescence where they are restless and are not sure of what they want to do for the rest of their life
Early Adulthood
Romantic relationship = Sternberg's theory of love identified 7 types of loves on the basis of 3 elements: intimacy, passion and commitment

Career Consolidation = men (and women) are focussed on career dvp, working hard for career dvp and prpmotion

Erikson = Intimacy vs Isolation, an indv needs to establish close, committed rs otherwise it will lead to isolation and self absorption
Late Adulthood

Erikson = Integrity vs despair, point in an indv's life where they look back at their entire life and exps and think if their life was meaningful and if they regret anything
Selective optimisation and compensation theory = to have successful ageing, it is linked to 3 main factors: selection, optimisation and compensation
