The causes
Religious
The British tried to support the Protestant cause in the Netherlands, so opposition to the government of Spain began to increase
Commercial
In September 1568 a slave trafficking expedition was surprised by the Spaniards and many English ships were sunk.
This clash exacerbated Anglo-Spanish relations and in the following years the British took possession of numerous Spanish ships carrying objects and precious metals.
Invincible Army
The fleet consisted of 130 ships, which however had a short range and required the approach of the enemies to launch the attack.
The commander of the English fleet, Francis Drake, opposed a strategy aimed at exploiting the range of their guns and the agility and speed of the English ships.
In the clash, the British prevailed, surprising expectations

After the defeat, a storm hit the Spanish fleet which definitively decimated the fleet.
