The Abolition of Slavery
- Slave trade begin in 17th Century. French merchants sailed from ports of Bordeaux and Nantes, bought from local chieftans and packed off to the Carribean islands where they are sold to the platation owners.
- Slavery was abolished in France since the Jacobin Rule.Ten years later, Napoleon reintroduced slavery because he needed sooldiers for his conquets.
- Europeans reluctant to work in unfimiliar spaces meant being short on labour in plantations. Triangular slave trade between Europe, Africa and the Americas.
- Colonies of Carribean- Martinique, Guadeloupeand San Domingo were suppliers of tobacco, sugar, indigo and coffee.
