  - - - In the current education system, standard-driven instruction plays a significant role. Summative assessment, therefore, provides an essential benchmark to check the progress of students, institutions and the educational program of the country as a whole.
        Summative assessment contributes largely towards improving the British curriculum and overall curriculum planning. When summative assessment data indicates gaps across the board between student knowledge and learning targets, schools may turn to improved curriculum planning and new learning criteria to assess and improve their school attainment levels.

- - - - Why is it important?
        
        Formative assessments are flexible and informal ways of assessing students progress and their understanding towards a certain subject or activity.
        
        One way to record the assessment’s findings and data is to help in lesson planning for the next few days, for example: if the students don’t understand the math lesson fully and still need help it could be reviewed until the students master it or the instruction could be revised to reinforce the learning.
        
        It helps the students to identify their strengths and weaknesses and is also helpful for the teachers to recognise where their students are struggling. This information could be kept so the institution could use it to identify strengths and weaknesses in strategies taken in school.
  - - - This strategy involves passing charts among groups to assess understanding. Each group of 4 or 5 students begins with a chart and some markers. The group records an answer to an open-ended question. They can also share the knowledge they have on a topic covered in class. Once the students finish the chart, they pass it on to the next group. Once every group has worked on every chart, responses are discussed as a class.
    - - Questioning strategies may be used with individuals, small groups, or the entire class. Effective formative assessment strategies involve asking students to answer higher-order questions such as “why” and “how.” Higher-order questions require more in-depth thinking from the students. They can help the teacher discern the level and extent of the students’ understanding.
    - - This is a true test of relevant and meaningful learning. When students learn something they find useful, they're likely to want to use that learning in some way. Have students end the day with this one. Give them cards to write on, or they can respond orally. They are required to respond to three separate statements like:
        
        3 things you didn't know before
        
        2 things that surprised you about this topic
        
        1 thing you want to start doing with what you've learned
    - - During instruction and activities I monitor the students in things as simple as cutting a straight line using scissors, recognising all of the numbers, recognising images that they see while observing books and communicating with me or their classmates. At the end of the week we create a learning journey that we send to the parents showing them what their child has learned or achieved during the week using pictures I take during the class.
    - - Having the students create arts and crafts that meet a specific topic in a lesson for example: a solar system, and then the students will be able to point to the different planets, name them and compare and contrast between each.
