- - - - As the story progresses, we begin to see how JD is working towards achieving her American Dream. He works very hard in school in order to get the education he needs and makes it into college. He works hard throughout college and lawschool, eventually getting a job, marrying, and settling down with a family of his own. He has now changed and is able to control himself better and has the ability to make his way out of certain situations due to his upbringing.
      - JD vance learned throughout the development of the story that all choices he makes matter. His decision making skills were heavily influenced by the people around him. These influences allowed JD to make the correct decisions that would work to help him in his journey to achieve the American Dream.
  - - - JD's grandparents "were, without question or qualification, the best things that ever happened to [him]"
        
        Without his grandparents there to mentor him, JD would have never learned things like hard work and the ability to create success for yourself. Papaw was a great example of hard work, and he had a great influence on JD.
    - - JD is a prime example of upward mobility in America. Hor JD, the American Dream was working your way to success and happiness, which is one of the most common perceptions of the American Dream. At a very young age, he is taught by Papaw and Mamaw to work hard and that money doesn't always buy happiness.
        
        However, JD says "I had achieved the American Dream. Or at least that’s how it looked to an outsider. But upward mobility is never clean-cut, and the world I left always finds a way to reel me back in."
        
        He is explaining how even after achieving what your goals were set out to be, you still have a sense for what life was like before the success.
        
        JD grew up in a poor household in a very poor town. He was mentored by people like his grandparents and learned how to make something out of his life. WIthout the influence of JD's grandparents, he probably would have never built such success and never would have been taught core values in his life.
- - - - Social ranking plays a large role in setting goals for your American Dream. People that are higher up in societ tend to strive to become more happy, while people that are poor or lower down in society are just trying to make money or clim up the social hierarchy.
    - - Religions around the world allow for more diversity among people beliefs and core values. When setting goals for ones American Dream, religion needs to be accounted for. Goals or dreams can be influenced by religion. One example might be someone working to maintain happiness but also spiritual growth and spiritual happiness as well.
  - - - This CommonLit explains that through hard work the American Dream can be achieved, and will influence future generations to be better than the previous. However, the CommonLit also shows the other side of the spectrum, and how people are losing faith in the importance of the American Dream. The author explains how people can't lose sight of the American Dream because for many people it is their only sense of hope.
    - - Courtney E. Martin explains in this TED Talk how the American Dream is constantly changing through different generations and time periods. SHe believes that the American Dream should be more centered around happiness and continuing to work and live like your ancestors did through living courageously and interacting with many different cultures or political views.
    - - In this article, we see another example of and individual achieving the American Dream. That individual is Chloe Zhao, a young woman coming from Communist China to American in order to receive a fresh start. She is on the strive for happiness and success, which she achieved through working hard and not giving up. This is a prime example of the American DReam, someone setting a goal that will achieve a sense of happiness and self worth, and then working hard to complete this goal.
