Theory to be applied
Training needs analysis (TNA) is “concerned with identifying gaps between work performance and standards of work or performance criteria that have a training solution”
(Bratton & Gold, 2011)
-
In the past the term did not include the word ‘learning’ but frequently now the importance of learning is recognised so the important consideration is not just what does an individual need to be trained to do but what does that individual need to learn in order to do the job effectively. (Nyfoudi & Shipton, 2014)
TLNA is a structured process by which the L&D needs of an organisation are gathered, reviewed and codified in a development plan (Matthews 1997 p10)
A training needs analysis is a formal and systematic process for analysing the learning and development needs of employees and is usually compiled at three levels: the individual, the department, and the organisation (Mankin 2009 pg172
Appreciative inquiry Hart, Conklin, and Allen (2008, p.638).
