Moral Issues on Discipline
Definition : the practice of training people to obey rules or a code of behaviour, using punishment to correct disobedience.
Example: Lecturer give detention to a student who keeps talking during lectures.
Issue: The issue of discipline in schools came up again recently after two teachers were brought to court. In the wake of these two cases, parents debated the abolition of corporal punishment and the Education Ministry reminded teachers of the SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) for disciplining students
For example, parents have been expressing concern that their children are being unfairly disciplined by teachers. Due to the General Orders, the latter unfortunately cannot respond to these allegations.
And now with social media amplifying the situation, the general perception is that the matter is getting from bad to worse
Factors:
Lack of faith and practices of religion
Lack of love and attention from parents
3.Strong influence from friends of the same age category
Violence actions
Solution
Parents should give good religious education
Government’s role - launch a campaign on discipline
Government should make sure students take moral education and civic seriously.
