Character study chapter 8 - Coggle Diagram

- - - - I think that Kel is wise as she understands Merric's feelings and doesn't think that Merric was rude to her. She understood why Merric was like this to her, she was wise enough to understand it did not end up getting mad at Merric at all. Instead, she explained to Merric why she saved her without forcing Merric to say thank you back to her. I think that if this was Neal, he would have exploded and got mad at Merric for not saying thank you.
  - - - I think that Kel is kind-hearted because she gives a cup of seeds for the sparrows to eat. She does not own the sparrows nor was she assigned to help the sparrows but still feels sympathy for them and is kind-hearted enough to give them food. I think that if this was someone else such as Joren, he wouldn't even look at the sparrows and instead, he would shove them off or maybe even bully and injure them like how he does to the younger pages as he is superior.
  - - - I think that Kel is interested because when she is learning about swords she enjoys it. If she wasn't interested, she would fall asleep during the class or just not pay attention. Another reason I think she is interested in that she never learned the subject but still likes it. This shows that there is no influence on her interest in the subject and that she genuinely likes it. I think that Cleon would have acted the same way as Kel since he also shows interest in other subjects like Kel.
  - - - I think that Kel is punctual because she tried not to be late for serving Wyldon's table. Even if she had to rush things, she still made it on time. She doesn't want to be late and actually be on time for things. I think that if this was Joren he would have taken his time and maybe even forgot to come. If he was late, he would just make an excuse on why he was late even though he actually had no good excuse for coming late.
  - - - After she opened the door, she looked around the area in case it is not a safe place to be in.
        
        I think that she is cautious because she opened the door cautiously and looked around the area. She looked around in case the area isn't safe and another person was there and could possibly attack Kel. I think that if this was Joren, he would have just barged in without looking around as he is reckless, unlike Kel. Kel is aware that the castle has many people, if she wasn't aware of that, I think that she would be reckless as well and just barged in but instead, she was cautious.
  - - - I think that Kel is caring because she prepared gifts for Neal, Salma, Prince, and Gower. If she did not care for any of them, she wouldn't have gotten any gifts for any of them and not do anything for them at all. I think that if this was Neal with a different personality he would have done the same thing as they both are really kind and caring.
  - - - Kel was trying to figure out who gave her the bruise blam.
        
        I think that Kel was curious as she was wondering who gave her the bruise balm. She wanted to find out who was so kind enough to give her a gift as she was curious to do so. She isn't just grateful but she is also curious about it. I think if this was Neal, he would of just be grateful and used it without thinking of who could have given this to him. Neal would just move on with life because he isn't as curious as Kel.
  - - - Evidence and why I think this way.
        
        In the book, it said that, '' The sparrows cheeped. Kel emptied a cup of the seed she had begged from the stables weeks before onto her desk. Dumping her collection of colored rocks from their shallow dish, she filled it with water and put it down for the birds. That done, she hurried to wash and finish dressing. Looking at her face in the mirror, she saw what Gower had meant: the swelling was gone, but she had brightly colored bruises around one eye and her other eyebrow and on one cheekbone. Kel shook her head and left her room.
        
        The reason that this is having usefulness of time due to her being able to finish things quickly, she probably used her time wisely to be able to finish quickly. If she never did her priorities and get dressed, she would be late and would have to work late again. She also managed to feed birds dumplings while having to wash and wear her dress. She was able to feed the birds and not be late, this says that she can use her time wisely.
  - - - Evidence and why I think that she is responsible:

        Why I think that she is responsible is because she had a lot of things to do and she was aware she had many priorities. She noticed a lot of sparrows on her chest, she realized that they all were very hungry. She took the responsibility to feed them even though she was not their owner, she just took the responsibility to do so.
  - - - I think that Kel is sarcastic because she said
        "wonderful," she said, throwing off the covers. "So much for a little extra sleep," she becomes sarcastic because she didn't have extra sleep but she said "so much for a little extra sleep," when she couldn't sleep. I think she was annoyed when she couldn't get extra sleep and then decided to be sarcastic as she actually wanted to sleep for a longer period of time. I think that everyone else would probably act the same way as everyone wants extra sleep.
  - - - In the book, said that '' Kel toyed with her scone. She usually didn't like to explain herself, but she respected Neal. '' Warriors get hurt. you don't have to like it, just live with it. ''
        
        I think that this is being mature as Neal was questioning if she liked getting hurt but, Kel responded with a very mature answer. She responded with '' Warriors get hurt, you don't have to like it, just live with it. '' Even if she gets injured a lot, she knows that it is a vital part of being a page. She doesn't like the pain but, she learned to live with the pain
  - - - In the book, it said that '' Kel trotted to her rooms, whistling cheerfully. She was tired and sore as always, but for once she was ahead of the others. It looked as if she would be cleaned up and ready to wait on Wyldon's table on time. ''
        
        I think that in this text, she is hardworking because even though she was tired and sore, she was still ahead of the others and cleaned up very quickly and already was ready to meet up with Wyldon. Despite being tired and sore, she was still first. I think that this shows how hard working she is.
  - - - In the book, it said that '' The prince had been a source of worry. She though it might be presumptuous to give him a present but, she really wanted to. She gave him a small Yamanin painting of a bridge over a forest stream. The colors were dreamlike: grays, faded blues and greens, stark browns. it always gave her the feeling of peace, and she hoped it would make Roald feel better about his coming marriage. ''
        
        I think that this is being sympathetic because she wanted him to feel better about his marriage as he could be stressed about it. She gave him a Yamanin drawing so that he could feeling better about the marriage and wouldn't be worried at all about it.
  - - - In the book, it said that Kel said ''You watch,'' Kel informed stubbornly. '' I'll do so well that he'll have to let me stay. ''
        
        I think that Kel is being confident here because she's making claims before she did anything. She said that she will do so well that Wyldon will allow him to stay. Even though she has no evidence of it, she is still confident enough about it as she believes in herself.
  - - - In the book, it said that Kel said''You watch,''Kel informed stubbornly. ''I'll do so well that he'll have to let me stay. ''
        
        I think that this is being determined as she says that she can do well enough that Wyldon will allow her to stay. Here, she is implying that she WILL do so well that she will be allowed to stay. She will stay as she is determined to do so, she will work hard because she actually wants to stay and continue training as a page. Her determination is enough to stay, that is why she saves that she will do so well that she will be able to stay as a page.
- - - - I think that he is humorous because he jokes to Kel that the sunrise came up early because her eye had swollen and it had a bruise but it was gone. I think that if this was Neal he would have acted the same.
- - - - I think that Merric is rude because when Kel helps him, he never thanks her and he gets mad for helping him. I think that this is extremely rude because if someone helps you you are supposed to be thanking them instead of being rude. I think that if this was Kel I think that she would have thanked her.
  - - - In the book, it said that Merric said '' Just because you're a stupid probationer girl, doesn't mean you can ignore custom like that, either!''
        
        I think that this is being disrespectful as Kel did something good, helping him. After she helped him, Merric responded with a huge amount of rudeness and disrespect. However, when Joren and his friends bullied Merric, he was not rude and instead just listened to them and did what they asked him to do and never stood up for himself when he had many opportunities to do so.
  - - - In the book, Merric said many things, '' I didn't ask you to come bollocking in!'' he yelled. ''I don't need you to defend me!'' He also said '' Just because you're a stupid probationer girl doesn't mean you can ignore custom like that either!"
        
        I think that this is being ungrateful as Kel helped him and he didn't even say anything back. He at least could've said thank you but instead he was being rude to Kel and saying offensive things to her just because she got in the fight.
  - - - In the book, Merric said many things, '' I didn't ask you to ome bollocking in!'' he yelled. ''I don't need you to defend me!'' He also said '' Just because you're a stupid probationer girl doesn't mean you can ignore custom like that either!''
        
        I think that this is being sensitive due to him getting mad over a small thing, Kel just saved Merric and he took it very seriously. He took it to an extent that he started being disrespectful and rude to Kel and he said many rude things about women.
- - - - In the book, it says that, "Neal banged on her door as she finished dressing. Kel let him in, remembering to leave the door open. "I love that little cat," he said, ruffling her hair. "Thank you.""
  - - - "Neal practiced with the oldest pages. As a nobleman's son he'd been tutored in the use of a sword for the last seven years."
- - - - I think that Cleon is annoying because he calls Kel to do errands for him when Kel was injured from the fight.
        I think that if Neal was Cleon he wouldn't have called Kel since she was injured.
  - - - I think that Cleon is funny/annoying/irritating to Kel because he calls Kel my quiver, if you would, my pearl and I think not a lot of boys would call girls like that unless they are trying to annoy them. I think that if Joren was Cleon he would have acted the same way but instead would he would have called Kel in a more rude way.
- - - - I think that Wyldon is caring because he cares about the kids safety and he canceled archery practice. I think that if this was any other teacher they would have done the same thing.
  - - - I think that Wyldon is a good teacher because he takes the opportunity to teach the pages about immortals. I think that other teachers such as Oakbridge won't be teaching immortals when they had other things to do.
  - - - In the book, it said that Wyldon bore down on the groner, the first year-page named Quienden. '' Do you think spidrens sit indoor in the winters?'' he rapped out. ''They've got nice furry coats. They don't care if it's freezing. Killer centaurs and killer unicorns hate drifts, but they'll attack in shallow snow. Get used to fighting in it'' He turned to include the rest of the pages in his lecture. ''Once a knight could take his ease in winter. Pirate's bandits, Scanrans, and Carthakis stayed home. We practiced our snow hunting skills, being polite to ladies, and polishing our armor. Winter was our easy season.
        
        I think that he is being knowledgeable here as he is able to highlight every detail about spidren's and he just has a lot of information about them. He can teach other people about what he knows, he asks Gower questions and explains to him about spidren's. If he were to not have any information about spidren's, he wouldn't be able to explain about them. If this was Kel or another first year page, they wouldn't be able to explain or communicate this information to Gower as they do not have the knowledge about it and aren't knowledgeable.
  - - - In the book, it says that, "Lord Wyldon was livid. He sentenced all of them to a week of early-evening duty in the palace laundry. The laundry maids, a set of rough, no-nonsense women with muscles that Kel envied, had a field day with the lads assigned to help them."
  - - - In the book, it says that, "For her late arrival, Wyldon assigned Kel to wait on his table through the month of January. His guests that night, two grizzled warriors from the northern army, spent the meal telling jokes about women who were never prompt. Kel had to remind herself often to be as stone."
- - - - I think that this is being mean and ruthless as Seaver helped them carry the books but they still hit and injured Seaver. I think that this is being ruthless as Joren didn't feel any pity for Seaver and just beat him down.
    - - I think that this is being ruthless as he didn't feel any pity if anything happened to Kel, he didn't care if Kel would get injured badly nor did he consider it at all. He just wanted Kel to trip and injure herself.
- - - - I think that Vinson is a bully because he kicks Seaver without a warning or without a reason to kick him. I think that if Joren was Vinson he would have acted the exact same way.
- - - - In the book, it says that "A woman out of her place is a distraction to men, and struck her repeatedly until Kel kicked him in the stomach to make him back off."
