Where did PTSD originate from?
PTSD was something common in the ancient times, they just couldn't describe the actual feeling and used words like nostalgia in it's stead.
Generally, back in previous generations, soldiers would call PTSD as shell shock, soldier's heart, combat fatigue, or war neurosis. They thought it was much of big deal back then and didn't know the actual mental affects that it would cause.
The terminology Post-traumatic Stress DIsorder originated in 1980 but there were many cases before that instead of it being called PTSD they would use different hostnames.
What causes PTSD?
Usually caused by a traumatic accident as such listed above.
PTSD is most commonly caused from natural disasters, a serious accident, a terrorist act, war/combat, or rape
Treatments for PTSD
Medication, which can help with relieving pain and helping with various mood symptoms.
Psychotherapy, talking through your trauma may it be one-on- one or with a group, this method helps with getting used to certain situations that may trigger a person's PTSD
An ethically controversial treatment, this invovles a substance induced memory repairment in order to weaken the traumatic memories.
Who is affect by PTSD?
Anyone can be affect by PTSD, children, adults, any gender.
In some cases children have worse reactions to adults and can be detrimental to their daily life
U.S Latinos, African Americans, American Indians have higher rates of PTSD compared to non-Latino whites.
1 in 10 Canadians are affected by PTSD.
Women are twice as likely to have PTSD compared to men.
How does PTSD affect an individuals daily life?
For children, PTSD can causes various implication such as wetting the bed due to reoccurring nightmares of the event.
Moody, again this can result in aggressiveness because of a distorted perception of reality.
Avoidant, people who develop PTSD start to become more avoidant towards others leading to less socializing
Always paranoid wherever they go
