        under the Copyright Act 1956, D had to pay 6 1/4 % of the retail selling price
        
        D offered to pay 6 1/4 % of 1/6
        
        P argued the retail selling price was 1/6 & 3 bars of chocolate
        
        HELD- the wrappers form part of the consideration even though they were of no value to the buyer or D
- - - - D asked P to get him a king's pardon
      - P attempted to do so, travelling to and from London & Newmarket
      - Later D promised him £100 for his help- never paid
      - P sued for £100 but D argued that the consideration was in the past
      - HELD- P was entitled to be paid on the grounds, D had requested his service
- - - - P was supposed to give evidence on behalf of D. D promised to buy 6 guineas for his troubles
      - P gave evidence, but D refused to pay. P sued him for payment
      - HELD- a person who has been subpoenaed is legally obliged to attend therefore P had provided no consideration for D's promise to pay
    - - if the plaintiff does more than would be expected of him in the bare discharge of his duty- it would constitute good consideration

        a miners' strike was in progress- P's mine needed police protection
        
        police suggested a mobile force but P wanted a stationary guard and offered to pay for it
        
        the police complied but P refused to pay
        
        HELD- the police had a legal duty to provide protection but only had to provide as much as they considered necessary.Providing more protection than needed constituted good consideration
  - - - P and 10 other sailors signed on to sail from London to the Baltic and back
      - 2 men deserted. captain promised if the crew shared the work of the deserters they would also share the wages
      - when they got back to London- the captain refused to pay the wages
      - HELD- by sailing the ship home- P only performed his obligations under the original contract.- therefore he did not provide any consideration for the promise to be paid more
