HOW DO PEOPLE USE WATER
Domestic purposes
Bathing, cooking, flushing the toilet
Recreation
Water sport such as canoeing, sailing, sport fishing
-
Industry
Water is used to cool equipment in factories and power plants because they generate a lot of heat when they operate.
THE HYDROLOGICAL CYCLE
INPUT
-Precipitation
Water falls as rain, or snow if the air is cold enough.
FLOWS
-Infiltration, -Percolation, -Surface runoff,-Groundwater, -Channel flow
-
OUTPUT
-Discharge into the sea, - Evaporation, -Tranpiration
Evaporation - The sun's heat causes water to evaporate. Water changes into water vapour. Transpiration - Plants give out water vapour through their leaves
WATER BUDGET: Water surplus, Water deficit
Water surplus = When input is more than output, more water is received than lost, and the catchment is likely to have more than enough water available.
Water deficit = When output is more than input, more water is lost than received, and the catchment is likely to have less water available than is enough.

PHYSICAL STATES OF WATER
: :
LIQUID
Water in its liquid state flows freely, with no set shape but a fixed volume. We can see water in its liquid form when it rains, and in rivers or reservoirs.
GAS
Water vapour is water in its gaseous state. Water also turns into water vapour through evaporation. Since evaporation occurs all the time and at any temperature, water vapour is always in the surrounding air..
SOLID
The ice we see is water in its solid state. Under cold temperatures, water freezes into ice. We can also see ice in snow, glaciers and hail.
sustainable use of water
- turn off the tap when it is not in use. 2. spend lesser time on showers. 3. use energy efficient, water saving devices.
Sustainable water management means usuing water in a way that current , ecological, social, and economic needs without compromising the ability to meet those needs in the future .
