Mary Mary became queen in 1553. Mary was 37 when becoming queen and was a very strict Catholic. She married King Phillip of Spain however that was seen as a bad move due to him being very unpopular.
She made England Catholic once again, she made the pope control religion once more,
the churches were redecorated to make it look more extravagant.,
church services and prayer books were put back into Latin
and whoever wasn't Catholic would face consequences.
Around 300 people were burnt to death when refused to worship on the Catholic way. Most of these people were humble shopkeepers, carpenters, housewives and farmers.
When she died in 1558, everyone was celebrating in the streets and churches in London rang. Everyone was overjoyed.
Due to her actions, she gained the nickname, Bloody Mary.
