Capital Punishment

Types

Lethal injections: It is the most common mean of execution in most of the states in US. This method is probably one of the less violent ways of execution. The prisoner is taken to the execution chamber where he or she is tied to a chair or bed. Two IV tubes are inserted through his arm and three doses of different drugs are given.

The Electric chair:This method is also very common in the United States. Similarly to lethal injections, the prisoner is strapped to a chair with metal straps, and a wet sponge is placed on his head. Generally two currents are applied one after another, but of different levels and durations. This method can cause the body to heat up to an extremely high extent.

Gas Chamber:This method was most used by Germans in execution camps. Today there are only a few States in the US which use this method of execution. Typically, KCN pellets are mixed with H2SO4 to generate the lethal gas HCN hydrogen Cyanide. This is a painful way of execution as it takes longer time to make the prisoner unconscious.

Shooting and Shooting Squad: Both shooting and shooting by a squad are still used as a method of execution in both military and non military punishments. Shooting is mostly used in Russia and China. The squad shooting, however, is considered an honorable execution as it was mostly sentenced to freedom fighters.

Hanging: Hanging is a very commonly used method of execution around the world. The prisoners who are hanged usually die by strangulation or once their necks break. It was also used by Nazis, but their method was painful and slow. Today, the long drop method used is faster and less painful than many other methods of execution.

Belarus is the last country in Europe and former Soviet Union that is still carrying out the death penalty. In Belarus the use of the death penalty is compounded by a flawed criminal justice system that administers capital punishment in a manner that violates international laws and standards pertaining to the death penalty. There is credible evidence that torture and ill-treatment are used to extract “confessions”; condemned prisoners may not have access to effective appeal mechanisms; and the inherently cruel, inhuman and degrading nature of the death penalty is compounded for death row prisoners and their relatives by the secrecy surrounding the death penalty. Neither prisoners nor their families are told the execution date in advance and prisoners must live with the fear that every time their cell door opens they may be taken for execution.

Capital punishment in the United States is officially sanctioned by 38 of the 50 states, as well as by the federal government. The overwhelming majority of executions are performed by the states; the federal government maintains the right to use capital punishment (also known as the death penalty) but does so infrequently. Each state practicing capital punishment has different laws regarding its methods, age limits, and crimes which qualify.

Currently, capital punishment in Russia is not enforced. Russia has both an implicit moratorium established by President Boris Yeltsin in 1996, and an explicit one, established by the Constitutional Court of Russia in 1999 and most recently reaffirmed in 2009. Russia has not executed anyone since 1996.

There are 41 crimes punishable by death in US federal law codes. Federal death penalty crimes almost always involve murder committed in some kind of special circumstance, involving protected classes, multiple crimes, or children

EVERYTHING CONNECTED WITH MURDER AND TREASON IS PUNISHABLE BY DEATH IN BELARUS!

My opinion

Pluses of DEATH PENALTY and why it is beneficial:

It serves as an example to other would-be criminals, to deter them from committing murder or terrorist acts.

It punishes the criminal for his/her act.

It obtains retribution on behalf of the victims.

Minuses of DEATH PENALTY and why it is bad:

Death constitutes "cruel and unusual punishment"

The death penalty is used disproportionately against the poor, who cannot afford expensive legal counsel, as well as against racial, ethnic, and religious minorities.

The death penalty is applied arbitrarily and inconsistently.

A rehabilitated criminal can make a morally valuable contribution to society.

Killing human life is morally wrong under all circumstances.

I'm against the capital punishment because of the following facts: 1) Capital punishment breeds cruelty in society. For a long time, crowds of people gathered in the squares to watch how criminals were hanged, burned or beheaded. However, in more ancient times, executions were even more cruel and sophisticated - which is worth at least pouring boiling resin or impaling. Nevertheless, the methods did not scare away the audience, on the contrary - the people wanted more and more bloody spectacles. In an atmosphere of cruelty and impassivity, new crimes were committed with enviable regularity.2) Capital punishment does not eliminate the cause of the crime. The main factors provoking crime are poverty, lack of education, inequality, mental deviations of a particular criminal. The death penalty cannot in any way affect the indicated reasons.3) Capital punishment does not provide an opportunity for correction.4) The possibility of a miscarriage of justice. No matter how professional the investigators conducting the criminal case, no matter how convincing the evidence of the guilt of the convicted person, and no matter how fair the trial is, there is always a possibility of error in the judicial system of any country on our planet. Until the verdict is put into effect, the convicted person still has hope and the opportunity to collect the necessary evidence of his innocence and convince the investigation and the court of this.
