West Quay

Why redevelopment was needed?

1914 - 1990

the area was then cleared to make way for the current West Quay development

the pirelli factory occupied the entire site along the length of west quay road

the pirelli factory was shut down and left derelict for several years which then led to vandalism, anti-social behaviour and crime.

it became a brownfield site

Derelict and run down pipeworks.

Degraded land.

buildings exposed.

Anti social behaviour and crime.

Visually unappealing.

Dangerous structures.

Discarded chemicals and materials left.

Ground polluted by mercury and cadmium.
