ANTIVIRAL DRUGS
NEVIRAPINE
STORAGE CONDITION
• Store at 25°C and excirsions permited at 15°C to 30° C, keep safe and out of reach of children.
ADMINISTRATION ROUTE
• Given orally, as white biconcave tablet 500mg, and 50 mg per 5ml of oral suspension.
SIDE EFFECTS
• Rash, nausea, granulocytopnia, headache, fatigue, diarrhea and andominal pain.
CONTRA-INDICATION
•Not for patients with moderate or severe heptic impairement, for use as ocxupational and non-occupational post prophylaxis exposure regimens.
MECHANISM OF ACTION
• It binds directly to reverse transcriptase and blocks the RNA dependant and DNA dependant DNA polymerase activities by causing the disruption of the enzymes catalitic site.
INDICATION
•Indicated with other antiretroviral drugs in treating the HI Virus HIV-1 in paediatrics and adults patient.
PERAMIVIR
STORAGE CONDITIONS
Store at 20–25°C (may be exposed to 15–30°C).
Following dilution, use immediately or store for ≤24 hours at 2–8°C.
CONTRA-INDICATION
• Is a cyclopentane analogue that competitively binds to the active site of the influenza virus neuraminidase. Peramivir inhibits the neuraminidase activity of strains of influenza A and B viruses.
-
INDICATION
• Used to treat acute uncomplicated influenza in patients aged 2 years and older who are shown to be symptomatic for no more than two days.
MECHANISM OF ACTION
•Peramivir is an inhibitor of influenza neuraminidase, preventing new virus particles from leaving infected cells.
SIDE EFFECTS
Insomia, constipation, diarrhea, hypertension and increased serum blood glucose, Stevens Johnson syndrome and rash
ZANAMIVIR
STORAGE CONDITIONS
• Store at 25 °C and excursion pernitted to 15°C 30°C.
Keep out of reach of children.
ASMINISTRATION ROUTE
• Administered Orally, as an inhalation powder via DISKHALER.
SIDE EFFECTS
• Headache, nausea, vomiting, Diarrhea, beonchitis, cough and sinusitis.
MECHANISM OF ACTION
•Works by binding to the active sites of the neuraminidase protein, rendering the influenza vieus to not escape its host cells and infect others and inhibit influenza virus replication in vitro and in vivo.
CONTRA-INDICATION
• Not for treatment of prophylaxis of infuenza in patients with airways underlying condition, such as Asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
INDICATION
• Treat uncomplicated acute illness due to influenza A or B, to both young older than 7 years and adults.
ACYCLOVIR
STORAGE CONDITIONS
•Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
Store at room temperature away from moisture or heat.
ADMINISTRARION ROUTE
•Take this medicine by mouth

SIDE EFFECTS
•rash, itching or hives on your skin
swelling of your face, lips, tongue or other parts of your body,
shortness of breath, wheezing or trouble breathing and collapse.
MECHANISM OF ACTION
•competitively inhibits viral DNA polymerase by acting as an analog to deoxyguanosine triphosphate (dGTP). Incorporation of acyclovir triphosphate into DNA results in chain termination since the absence of a 3' hydroxyl group prevents the attachment of additional nucleosides.
CONTRA-INDICATION
•if you are allergic to aciclovir or valaciclovir or any of the other ingredients of this medicine, anf if you have kidney problems and over 65 years of age.
INDICATION
•treat chickenpox and shingles
treat cold sores, genital herpes and other herpes simplex infections
