How social media affects young girls
mental illness and suicide
This topic matters to others because it leads to severe mental illnesses in young girls or even suicide.
These include eating disorders like anorexia and bulimia as well as depression, social anxiety, and many others.
Mental illness in young girls is often very overlooked and people often assume that young girls are just emotional and going through body-image issues and eating disorders is just normal
This not only lead to me developing an eating disorder but also losing my period for a year, not being able to play soccer anymore because I was too weak, and losing a lot of friends due to social anxiety about eating.

body image and self-confidence
In high school a guy told me that I needed to lose weight and it crushed me. I then reinforced this idea in my head by looking at beautiful girls on social media with what I considered to be perfect figures.
I also know that it is much rarer for people to focus on body positivity instead of talking about losing weight and how pretty girls on social media are. This can lead to many girls idolizing false expectations which can lead to feelings of hopelessness.
A negative-body image can often lead to social anxiety which can be devastating to one’s mental state and relationships.
When you comment about a feature that you find unattractive on someone or make fun of someone in any way, it can be detrimental to them. Therefore, I think that making everyone aware about the issue will really help to diminish the number of young girls that have self-positivity issues.

Living a healthy and happy lifestyle
Finally, living a happy and healthy lifestyle is so important for everyone. Eating healthy and being active not only leads to physical benefits but also mental ones. Learning how to incorporate these into your life in positive ways can benefit everyone and help to make sure that they not only live a long life but a happy one also.
Instead they should appreciate their bodies and I think that showing them this is possible through more positive forms of social media and more positive messages will benefit them.

I also think by reporting on positive accounts that it could help for these accounts to be more involved in everyday life and to help lessen the stigma about what an ideal body looks like.
